About Kye Gratton

Kye began playing the guitar at the age of 11 and was instantly hooked. In the next few years he developed a passion for blues, classic rock and jazz music, and even won the most improved award at the annual Sydney Jazz and Big Band Camp at the age of 13.

After leaving high school, he began playing the pub circuit in Sydney, and featured as lead guitarist and co-writer for the bands Undone, Dyslexia, Playsome and Old School Beautiful.

In 2007 Kye completed his Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in composition and music production at the Australian Institute of Music, where he studied under composers Greg White, David Hush, Drew Crawford, Simone East and Daniel Blinkhorn as well as guitarists Sam Rollings and Steve McKenna.

Since graduating Kye has worked on writing music for amateur films and computer games, as well as continuing to perform as a guitarist around Sydney, including work with singer/songwriter Sarah Reeve.

Most recently he has been teaching guitar at Five Dock Music School and writing and performing music with singer Maj Ingemann Thomsen and their band, "Mye".

Kye's influences include Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Pat Metheny, Wes Montgomery, John Scofield, Tommy Emmanuel, Antoine Dufour and John Mayer.

Outside of music, Kye works part time as a disability support worker with a group of children who have special needs.
